  6. I just want to say thank you for sharing this pattern. I am waiting to start Chemo as I have Mastocytosis but I have in the last 3 weeks found out I may have a brain tumor I love to wear hats and these suit me to a tee, so I’m knitting constantly to keep my mind off things and I can make these in mass and take them to my local Cancer Unit to help raise funds x

these caps are beautiful! My niece has been diagnosed w/breast cancer and undergoing chemo.

I am a semi-BEGINNER and I understand most patterns, but after the body of the cap, I’m confused by the instructions for the lace and the crown? Do you just leave the body, and cast on the stitches for the lace? And then go to the crown?

    HELP, PLEASE!

Your projects are lovely, and I’m so excited about advancing my skills
    and learning!

    God Bless
    Joan

    • The lace is included in the body section. This is just the section of the hat that is straight sided. Once you have knit this section to the needed height before the crown, start the crown section with the stitches already on your needles. The crown section has decrease stitches to taper the top of the hat. It is all knit in one continuous piece that you will just seam up the side when you are done.

  8. Hi,

I’m a beginning knitter and trying to follow your pattern. However, somewhere on row 3 I make a mistake.

    * k2, yo, k4, sk2p, k4, yo, k1 * k1

Here, I only repeat what is in the asterisks, correct? And the last stitch will be the K1?

I repeat this along the row but always I’m left with 5 stitches at the end.

Are you able to identify my mistake?

    Kind regards,
    Sam

    • The cast on of 85 is for 6 repeats of 14 stitches and then an extra edge stitch. So the part between the asterisks is 14 stitches with the extra stitch being the knit at the end. So you can check your count by verifying that making the stitches between the asterisks uses 14 stitches from prior row and produces 14 stitches.

      Stitches Uses Produces
      k2 2 2
      yo 0 1
      k4 4 4
      sk2p 3 1
      k4 4 4
      yo 0 1
      k1 1 1
      Total 14 14

  9. I’m working on the scallop lace edge, and I’m a tad confused. Is Row 1 (and all purl sides) meant to be the right or the wrong side? I want to make sure that smooth part of the cap itself faces out with the more attractive side of the lace edge, which imo is the knit side.

  10. When knitting rows 15 &16 where it says, ” repeat rows 15 and 16 until the hat measures 5.75″ from edge. Is the edge I am measuring from when I started knitting row 15 or row 1?

  11. I have made these two Chemo caps and also the Lace ones for my friend I would like to knit more and donate them to my local hospital in Australia. Have I your permission to do this as
I think because they are so nice the people who are having Chemo would like them as my friend does.

I will not be giving the pattern to anyone but thought it may help during treatment.

    Kind regards Carmel

  12. When I start the crown the last stitches on Row 1 do not come out right with the pattern.
I have started with the 85 stitches and ended with a Row 16…
    Thank you
    Diane

    • The 85 stitches are six repeats of 14 stitches plus an extra stitch for the edge.

      Row 1: * k3, ssk, k5, k2tog, k2 * k1
In the repeat section, the ssk and the k2tog each use 2 stitches. So the repeat uses 3+2+5+2+2=14 stitches. Check to be sure that each of your repeats in this first row is using 14 stitches. That should make the stitch count come out correctly.

  13. Good morning. I would like to use this pattern to knit hats for an 11-year-old. Could you suggest modifications to make this a hat that would fit her or provide me the circumference of this finished hat so that I can make the appropriate modifications? Thank you.

    • The finished hat measures 20 inches in circumference which may work for her unmodified. There is only an inch difference between medium adult sized hats and youth sizes.

  14. Hi i keep coming up with 16 stitches instead.of 14. Doesnt yo make.2 stitches what am i doing wrong. Thanks for all these.patterns.

    • Make sure that your sk2p stitches are combining three stitches to one. You are correct that the yo stitches add a stitch, but the sk2p counterbalances the two yo stitches to keep the final stitch count the same.

  15. Thanks for answering me
    I will try again. Michele
